Ajwain Owaj – ओवा अजवाईन Carcum copticym
अजवाईन is the name because of the peculiar goat like odour.
The plant is a small annual herb regularly cultivated for its fruits. The fruits are very small sized, brownish in colour with fine vertical lines over the surface.
Fruits are used for culinary purpose. They are hot and with pungent taste.
As medicine, they are valued as stimulant carminative and also as stomachic – ज्यांचं पोट दुखेल तो ओवा खाईल !
Fruits are administered in flatulence and as anthelmintic. The active principles is Thymol and also a volatile oil.
